The Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball/Softball Association (SLABSA) resumed their development by conducting three Teachers Training programmes (TTP) in Kandy, Laggala and Matale respectively.

After the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, this programme was done with the blessing of the World Baseball Softball Confederation(WBSC) which was sponsored by the International Olympic Committee(IOC) through the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka(NOCSL).

More than 150 Coaches, Sports Officials, Physical Training Instructors (PTI’s) and Teachers participated on all three days as the Sri Lanka SLBSA successfully conducted the three Teachers Training programmes on September 23, 24 and 25 in the Central Province. These programmes were conducted in three educational zones in the Central Province namely Kandy, Wilgamuwa (Laggala) and Matale.

Sports Officials and PTI’s actively participated in the programmes showing great interest in learning the relatively new sport of Baseball. All participants were awarded certificates for taking part in the programme.

SLABSA is hoping to popularise the game in every district and they are of the view that their goal of promoting the game could not be achieved without developing coaches, who are one of the main stakeholders of the game.

SLBSA has drawn up several more similar programmes around the country in the coming months. (AN)
