Voter turnout as of 4pm has been reported as follow,

Voter turnout in Colombo District was 60%, Ratnapura District was 70%, Gampaha District  was 62%, Puttalam District was 60%, Trincomalee District was 69%, Kalutara District  was 60%, Matale District was 68%, Monaragala District was 65%, Kandy District was 65%, Galle District  was 60%, Polonnaruwa District was 55%, Kegalle District  was 67%, and Jaffna District was 57%.

 

Polling of the Sri Lanka’s 16th Parliamentary Election drew to an end at 5.00 pm today (05). The process got underway in the early hours of the day, at 7.00 am.

At the close of polls, the voter turnout in 12 electoral districts had crossed 70 per cent.

The highest voter turnout was observed in Hambantota and Batticaloa districts, which added up to 76 per cent.

Meanwhile, Nuwara Eliya and Monaragala districts have recorded the second highest (75%) voter turnout.

Puttalam electoral, saw the lowest voter turnout in the polling with only 64 per cent.

The Chairman of Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya meanwhile said the overall voter turnout island-wide stands at 71 per cent.

Counting of votes for the 2020 parliamentary election to begin at 7 am tomorrow.

 
758 complaints on election law violations from 6 am – 2 pm : National Election Commission.
Overall the voting for the 2020 General Election took place in a peaceful manner, said SSP Jaliya Senaratne, the Police Spokesperson.

Ballot Boxes will be sent to counting centers following the completion of the process to seal the boxes, he added.

Sri Lanka Police said it deployed 3067 armed mobile patrols to ensure the ballot boxes are protected adding an armed escort will be provided for each ballot box.

Further he said, all the routes along which the ballot boxes will be transported will be covered with armed police mobile patrols adding the National Elections Commission has set up check-points to monitor the transportation of ballot boxes with armed police officers as well.

SSP Jaliya Senaratne went on to note all counting centres will be provided with full armed protection and every counting center will be provided with Police Special Task Force protection.
