The Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka (TTASL) has decided to appoint two new national coaches and four assistant coaches in their continuous search for medals at future international competitions.
“We have decided to appoint a national coach for the Men’s and the Women’s Team and four additional coaches who would be assisting in their training,” a reliable source from the TTASL told the Daily News yesterday.
“The criteria for the appointment of national coaches and their assistants have already been finalised while applications will be called shortly to select them,” the source added further.
A national table tennis coach has not been appointed for a long time with a head coach being selected whenever Sri Lanka takes part in an international competition.
These new national coaches are to be appointed shortly since the National Pool for the senior and junior paddlers would be formed in 2021.
Meanwhile, the South Asian Table Tennis Championships, which was postponed indefinitely because of the Coronavirus pandemic, is likely to be held in September in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with the South Asian Table Tennis Association discussing this possibility with all member countries.
The TTASL is hoping to field a 12-member contingent comprising of six Men and six Women, for this event if the greenlight is given for this championship. A 30-member junior national pool comprising of 15 Men and 15 Women are currently training with the final touring squad to be announced after the selection trials are completed.
