Himasha and Amasha hog the limelight at Athletic Nationals

Himasha Eshan and Amasha de Silva, both from Army SC won the Men’s and Women’s 100m finals respectively at the 99th National Athletic Championship stage one, worked off at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

Eshan finished the race with a time of 10.45s while Amasha was placed first with a timing of 11.89s.

Meanwhile, Nilani Ratnayake who is very close to Olympic standard finished the 3000m steeplechase event first with a time of nine minutes 53.96s but she could not reach the expected Olympic standard of nine minutes and 30s.

To be on the safe side, she had to produce a time better than her national record of nine minutes and 46.76s but she was unable to reach that mark.

Long jump Men: (1) Janaka Wimalasiri (Army) 7.80m. (2) H. B. M. Y. B. R. Herath (Army) 7.69m. (3) K. K. M. K. Karunasekara (Army) 7.58m.
