Army COVID-19 Intermediate Care Centres in Kilinochchi, Murukkandi

Commander Security Force Kilinochchi Major General Harendra Ranasinghe went on an inspection tour of the Intermediate Care Centre. General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Brigadier Administration and Quartering Brigadier Deepal Hathurusinghe and Commander 571 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Dammika Welagedara were also present.

General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Brigadier Administration and Quartering Brigadier Deepal Hathurusinghe and Commander 571 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Dammika Welagedara were also present.

Security Forces personnel in Kilinochchi converted the Bharathipuram Quarantine Centre to an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) to accomodate COVID-19 patients.

As per the directions Chief of Defence Staff, Army Commander and Head, National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) General Shavendra Silva, Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, the Commander Security Force Kilinochchi coordinated the task to provide a coordinated response to the mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 third wave and to strengthen the capacity of the health care system.

Major General Harendra Ranasinghe went on an inspection tour to observe the work being carried out at the Intermediate Care Centre and inquired into the needs of the medical staff as regards its operational and supporting roles.

Regional Director of Health Services Dr. R.N.Saravanabawan, Director of District General Hospital Kilinochchi Dr. Sugandan, General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Brigadier Administration and Quartering Brigadier Deepal Hathurusinghe, Commander 571 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Dammika Welagedara, Colonel General Staff of SFHQ (KLN) and other senior officers of Army Base Hospital in SFHQ (KLN) participated to the event.

Meanwhile, troops of Security Force Kilinochchi Area have also converted the Murukkandi Quarantine Centre into an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) consisting of 350 beds.

The second ICC constructed by the Sri Lanka Army will function under the supervision and guidance of Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, the Commander, Security Forces Kilinochchi and District Coordinating Officer for COVID-19 Outbreak of Kilinochchi District.
