Speaking to the media after engaging in religious observances, Mr. Premadasa said he fell victim to the disease because he had refused to get inoculated. “I was infected with COVID-19 as I refused to get the vaccine. However, I will continue my earlier stance until the entire population in Sri Lanka get vaccinated,” Mr. Premadasa said.
“However, we will continue to follow health guidelines to avoid risks,” he added.
“People are devastated with the current pandemic and as they are unable to find their food while others have lost their livelihood. Therefore, this is a time when the entire nation should come together to overcome this tough situation,” he also said.
He expressed his gratitude to all medical personnel who took care of him and his wife and the clergy who were engaged in religious observances for his speedy recovery.
