X-Press Pearl fire: Pay attention to damage caused to fish stocks – Ranil

United National Party (UNP) leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that although the concentrated acids on board the X Press Pearl have not yet spilled to the sea, the Government has not paid any attention to the possible damage that may be caused to fish stocks in the future. He was speaking at a discussion held yesterday (18) with senior members of the UNP through Zoom. During the discussion he inquired about any alternative protein foods provided by the Government to the large number of people who eat only fish for their protein needs.

He pointed out that the prices of vegetables have already gone up and that the prices of meat including chicken will also increase in the future. He also said that the inability of the Government to act with foresight on any of the issues that the people would face in the future was evident in this issue as well.
