Chief Government Whip and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando yesterday said that work has already commenced to complete construction of 17,311.27 Kms on 12,336 roads by the end of the second quarter of this year, under the project of developing 100,000 km of rural roads as part of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s National Policy Framework, “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour”.
“Work is proceeding with the aim of completing the development of 25,000 Kms of road by the end of this year,” the Minister said.
He said that under the project, rural roads linking the main arterial roads would be developed to ease their connection to the expressways and alternative routes that help travel to cities that will be developed.
The project is planned in a meticulous manner to prevent any damage to the environment.
“The project has also been planned to employ the highest standards to ensure durability to benefit road users,” the Minister said.
