Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Asela Gunawardena said that the AstraZeneca vaccine stocks which were in short supply for the second dose have already been found.
He said that a stock of 1.4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine would be received in the country by the end of this month.
There is a shortage of approximately 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine for those who received its first dose.
Providing the first dose of AstraZeneca commenced last January and ended in April. The number of persons who have obtained the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine is 925,242. Out of them, only 385,885 persons have been given the second dose as of now.
The Director General also said that 90,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine are due to arrive in the island on Monday (26) and that those would be given as the second dose to people in the Puttalam and Mannar Districts.
Dr. Gunawardena said that since different types of vaccines are being recommended for individuals going for jobs abroad by each country, a proper system would be introduced for this purpose in the near future.
